Hays, Kansas – Snow will overspread Ellis, Trego, Ness and Rush counties by 6 p.m. tonight, creating slick road conditions through the early Saturday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. this evening until 6 a.m. CST Saturday, with total snow accumulations up to 2 inches and locally higher totals between 2 and 4 inches possible.

Road conditions will deteriorate overnight.

Light to moderate snowfall is expected along Interstate 70 near Hays and Wakeeney, as well as on U.S. Highway 283 near Ness City and La Crosse. Even minor accumulations may create slippery bridges and untreated secondary roads before sunrise Saturday.

Plan for reduced traction during the morning commute.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance, and check kandrive.gov or call 511 for updated road conditions before traveling.

Snow tapers around daybreak Saturday, but slick spots may linger through mid-morning as temperatures remain near freezing. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. CST Saturday.
