Salina, Kansas – Light snow will spread across central Kansas by 6 p.m., creating slick roads through the overnight hours and into the Saturday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. this evening until 6 a.m. CST Saturday for Barton, Ellsworth, Lincoln, Russell and Saline counties.
Forecasters expect 1 to 2 inches of snow, with isolated spots receiving slightly higher totals. Even minor accumulation will reduce traction on untreated roads and bridges overnight.
Road conditions will deteriorate after sunset.
Interstate 70 near Russell and Salina, along with U.S. Highway 281 near Great Bend and Ellsworth, may see snow-covered lanes by late evening. Rural county roads could become slick quickly as temperatures hover near freezing.
The Saturday morning commute may be affected before daybreak.
Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check kandrive.gov or call 511 for updated road conditions before traveling.
Snow tapers around sunrise Saturday, but isolated slick spots could linger into mid-morning. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. CST Saturday.
