Wichita, Kansas – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to roll into Wichita by Sunday afternoon, bringing the potential for lightning and brief heavy downpours across central Kansas into Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a 50% chance of storms will develop after 1 p.m. Sunday and continue into the overnight hours. Monday morning carries an additional 20% chance of thunderstorms before skies begin to clear. Winds out of the south will increase between 5 to 7 mph Sunday and Monday.

Cities including Derby, Andover, and Hutchinson may see brief rainfall, with isolated thunder posing a risk to outdoor weekend plans. While no severe weather is forecast, gusty winds and localized ponding on roads are possible. Storms may briefly impact travel on I-135 and US-54.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware, especially during Sunday afternoon activities. Charge devices and review storm safety plans in case warnings are issued.

After the storms clear, Wichita will return to hot, sunny conditions by Tuesday, with temperatures climbing to 93°F by midweek.
