Wichita, Kansas – Large hail and damaging winds could rattle southern Kansas late Sunday as another round of strong to severe storms rolls through the region from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the most intense activity is expected across south-central and southeastern Kansas, where isolated flooding and wind gusts may accompany hail-producing storms overnight. Areas near Arkansas City, Wellington, and Winfield fall under the greatest threat zone.

Drivers are urged to avoid travel during the overnight hours, especially in low-lying areas prone to flash flooding. Winds may down power lines and tree limbs, posing additional hazards for rural and residential communities. Nocturnal storms also raise the risk of missed alerts, so residents should have multiple methods to receive warnings—such as weather radios or phone alerts set to loud.

The National Weather Service advises readiness for rapid changes in weather conditions and urges residents to remain alert through early Monday. Additional updates or warnings may be issued as the storm system develops.
