Dodge City, Kansas – Another dangerous round of thunderstorms is expected to hit southwest Kansas Friday afternoon and evening, with the greatest threats targeting areas west of US 83 between 4 and 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, storms will mirror those seen Thursday, with large hail up to 2 inches, damaging wind gusts reaching 70 mph, and isolated tornadoes most likely in far western zones. The region from Liberal to Garden City, including counties like Seward, Stevens, and Grant, faces the highest severe weather potential.
US 83 will serve as a rough boundary for the most significant tornado risk, while widespread heavy rain over already saturated ground raises the threat of flash flooding. Localized flooding may impact rural roads and low-lying areas into Friday night.
Residents are urged to charge mobile devices, secure loose outdoor items, and avoid non-essential travel during the height of the storms. Emergency shelters and storm-ready plans should be reviewed now.
Warnings remain in effect through Friday night, and additional advisories may be issued as storm tracks evolve.
