Tulsa, Oklahoma – A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for much of northern and central Oklahoma until 8 a.m. Friday, with damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes possible throughout the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the watch covers more than two dozen counties including Tulsa, Oklahoma, Payne, Garfield, Kay, Logan, and Woodward. Scattered storms could produce wind gusts up to 75 mph, ping pong ball-sized hail, and a couple of tornadoes—especially across north-central Oklahoma.

Cities such as Oklahoma City, Stillwater, Ponca City, and Enid are all within the impacted zone. Emergency managers warn that wind damage to trees and power lines could lead to scattered outages overnight. Motorists are urged to avoid travel during peak storm periods and residents should secure outdoor items and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

This is the first widespread severe weather event for Oklahoma in June, a month known for volatile conditions. The Storm Prediction Center estimates over 1.4 million residents, 592 schools, and 63 hospitals are within the watch area.

The storm threat will diminish after sunrise, but additional alerts may follow depending on Friday’s conditions.
