Wichita, Kan. – Heavy rainfall drenched large swaths of Kansas over the past 24 hours, with Cedar Vale recording a staggering 6.30 inches, raising concerns for flooding in low-lying areas. Madison and Cedar Vale 7SE followed closely with over 5 inches each as storms repeatedly tracked across the same areas overnight and into Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the heaviest rain fell in south-central and southeast Kansas, where radar estimates and ground reports confirmed widespread totals of 3 to 6 inches. Cities including Winfield, Thrall, and Galva all recorded more than 3.5 inches, with the rainfall pushing creeks and rivers near bankfull.

Motorists are urged to avoid driving through water-covered roads, particularly along rural routes and near low-water crossings. Officials also recommend keeping drainage areas clear and checking sump pumps, as additional isolated showers may redevelop later tonight.

While widespread flooding has not yet been reported, saturated soils mean any further rainfall could lead to rapid water rises. Weather service forecasters say the threat will linger into Tuesday morning before conditions gradually dry out.
