Wichita, KS – A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Kansas and Oklahoma until 11 AM Wednesday. The National Weather Service in Wichita warns that the storm system could bring isolated hail up to ping-pong-ball size, scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph, and frequent lightning.
According to the National Weather Service, the affected areas include Wichita, Joplin, Bartlesville, Muskogee, and Fort Smith. The storm poses potential risks to nearly three million people, including 1,230 schools and 111 hospitals. Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
Wichita’s forecast shows a clear night with a temperature of 76°F. However, by Thursday, the weather will change dramatically with a high of 87°F and a 45% chance of thunderstorms. The stormy conditions are expected to continue into Friday, with a peak temperature soaring to 103°F. Saturday will bring some relief with a high of 91°F and a 40% chance of rain.
The weather will stabilize on Sunday and Monday, with highs of 90°F and 98°F, respectively, under partly cloudy skies. The heat returns on Tuesday with a high of 101°F. Residents should prepare for fluctuating weather conditions and keep an eye on updates from local authorities.
