Hastings, Nebraska – Strong to severe thunderstorms could strike south central Nebraska and north central Kansas late Wednesday afternoon, with hail and damaging winds likely between 4 p.m. and midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, storm chances ramp up significantly after 4 p.m., with a 20–50% probability of severe weather through the evening. Highs will reach the upper 60s to mid-70s before temperatures drop sharply overnight into the 40s and 50s. The most intense storms could bring hail and wind gusts above 50 mph.

Cities including Hastings, Grand Island, Kearney, and Concordia, Kansas, should prepare for rapid weather changes this evening. Drivers are urged to check road conditions before travel, and residents should secure outdoor items and charge devices in case of power outages. Hail damage to vehicles and roofs is possible, and isolated tree damage may occur with strong wind bursts.

Thursday brings slightly cooler weather with decreasing storm chances by the afternoon. Highs will range from the mid-50s to low 70s. Another round of showers and storms could return later this week, with updates expected by Thursday morning.
