Wichita, KS – Central and eastern Kansas are set to experience intense heat on Monday and Tuesday, with heat indices expected to soar between 104 and 109 degrees. The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a warning, advising residents to limit outdoor exposure during the hottest part of the day and to stay hydrated.

According to the National Weather Service, the heat will be most severe in Topeka, Salina, and Coffeyville, where indices could reach up to 110 degrees. The forecast indicates high temperatures will persist throughout the week, with Monday and Tuesday seeing highs of 98 to 103 degrees. The heat will ease slightly by Wednesday and Thursday, but temperatures will remain above normal, ranging from 92 to 100 degrees.

Meteorologists are also predicting a chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night, which might provide some temporary relief. However, the overall trend for the week suggests continued above-average temperatures.

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. The National Weather Service recommends staying indoors during peak heat hours, drinking plenty of fluids, and checking on vulnerable populations such as the elderly and young children. Employers are advised to ensure workers have adequate shade and hydration.
