Topeka, KS – A freeze warning is in effect across much of Kansas early Monday morning, with temperatures expected to drop to as low as 30°F. The warning will last from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT, affecting areas from central to northeast Kansas, including Topeka, Lawrence, and Manhattan.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing conditions pose a significant risk to sensitive crops and outdoor vegetation. The cold temperatures could also damage unprotected plumbing systems. As the warning expires Monday morning, a freeze watch will be in effect overnight from Monday into Tuesday, with temperatures possibly dipping as low as 27°F.
Residents are advised to take precautions to protect tender plants by bringing them indoors or covering them to prevent frost damage. Outdoor plumbing should also be insulated or covered to avoid potential damage from the cold.
The freeze conditions come on the heels of a relatively mild spring, presenting an unusual threat to Kansas’ agricultural areas and everyday life. The weather service urges the public to stay informed and prepare for the sharp temperature drop.
