Wichita, KS – Kansas residents should prepare for a significant heatwave this week, with temperatures climbing to the upper 90s and potentially reaching the low 100s. The National Weather Service in Wichita reports that while an isolated storm or two may occur in eastern Kansas tonight, the primary weather concern is the rising heat that will dominate through the middle of next week.
According to the US National Weather Service, the warming trend will bring temperatures to a peak of 93-98 degrees on Thursday evening. By Friday evening, highs are expected to reach between 95-100 degrees, with similar conditions continuing into Saturday evening, where temperatures could soar to 95-102 degrees.
The extended forecast indicates that Sunday and Monday evenings will maintain the extreme heat, with temperatures potentially exceeding 100 degrees, marking a critical period for heat-related health precautions. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and seek air-conditioned environments.
Additionally, the Cheney Reservoir is experiencing its lowest water levels since 2013, currently over six feet below the normal conservation level. The ongoing drought and lack of significant rainfall have exacerbated the situation, with little to no rain expected through early next week.
