WICHITA, KS – A stretch of active weather is ahead for Kansas, with fire danger today, thunderstorms late this weekend, and a possible wintry mix by Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wichita, very high fire danger is expected Friday due to gusty northwest winds and low humidity, particularly across central Kansas. Residents should avoid outdoor burning and be cautious with any potential fire hazards.

By Sunday afternoon, a 20% chance of showers moves into the region, with a higher 50% chance of thunderstorms overnight. While some storms could develop over southeast Kansas Monday night into Tuesday, severe weather is not expected.

Temperatures remain mild through the weekend, with highs near 71°F Friday, 56°F Saturday, and climbing back to 61°F Sunday. Winds will shift from northwest Friday to southeast by Sunday, with gusts up to 29 mph.

Tuesday brings the most notable change, with widespread rain showers likely and a 50% chance of a light wintry mix late Tuesday into Tuesday night. Breezy conditions are also expected, making travel conditions potentially hazardous.

Looking ahead, temperatures dip slightly midweek, with highs in the 40s Wednesday and Thursday before another warming trend.

Residents should stay updated on weather alerts and use caution with fire hazards today. Those traveling early next week should prepare for changing road conditions due to rain and possible wintry precipitation.
