Luray, KS – A mild earthquake measuring 3.0 magnitude was recorded near Luray, Kansas, early Monday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

According to the USGS, the quake occurred at 09:35 UTC (4:35 a.m. CDT) and was centered 5 kilometers (3 miles) south-southwest of Luray at a depth of 5 kilometers (3.1 miles).

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and no residents have submitted reports of feeling the tremor. The quake falls within the minor category, typically causing little to no structural impact.

Earthquakes of this magnitude are uncommon but not unheard of in Kansas, a state that occasionally experiences seismic activity due to natural faults and possible induced seismicity from industrial operations.

Authorities encourage residents to report any shaking they may have felt to the USGS to help improve seismic monitoring. Experts advise residents to stay prepared, as aftershocks—though unlikely—can sometimes follow minor quakes.
