Colorado Springs, CO – A volatile mix of high winds, fire risk, and snow will impact Colorado through midweek as spring officially begins on Thursday. Residents should prepare for dangerous fire conditions Monday and Tuesday, followed by a chance of snow in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, a Red Flag Warning is in effect through midnight Monday and again from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Winds will range from 30 to 40 mph, with gusts reaching 65 mph on Tuesday. Humidity levels as low as 7% will create extreme fire danger, making outdoor burning highly risky.
By Tuesday evening, the weather will shift as rain and snow showers develop, especially in higher elevations. A mix of rain and snow is expected from 5 p.m. onward, with blustery northwest winds and gusts up to 40 mph. Snow accumulation in the foothills could reach one inch.
Looking ahead, the five-day forecast shows cooler temperatures midweek before a gradual warm-up:
• Wednesday: Partly sunny, high of 44°F
• Thursday: Partly sunny, high of 58°F
• Friday: Mostly sunny, high of 52°F, slight snow chance early
• Saturday & Sunday: Mostly sunny, highs in the mid-50s
Drivers along I-25 and surrounding highways should prepare for strong crosswinds and potential travel disruptions. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid open flames, and stay updated on changing conditions.
