Kansas City, MO – A slow-moving winter storm will hammer the Kansas City metro area with up to 7 inches of snow starting Friday evening, with hazardous driving conditions expected across both Kansas and Missouri through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday, covering key metro counties including Jackson, Clay, Platte, Cass, and Johnson (KS and MO). Snow will begin after sunset Friday and increase in intensity through Saturday.
Interstates I-70, I-35, and I-435 are likely to become snow-packed and dangerous by Saturday morning. Commuters in Kansas City, Independence, Liberty, and Raymore are urged to stay home and prepare for delays through early Monday.
MODOT and KDOT will be pre-treating major roads, but crews may struggle to keep up during the height of the storm. Residents should monitor local alerts and avoid driving unless absolutely necessary.
Power issues remain unlikely, but wind-driven snow could reduce visibility. Updated advisories may follow if snowfall rates exceed current projections.
