Wichita, KS – Bitter cold wind chills are hitting parts of central and south-central Kansas this weekend, but warmer temperatures are on the way.
According to the National Weather Service, wind chills as low as zero to -5 degrees were expected early Saturday morning. Despite the frigid start, sunny skies will dominate the forecast, with temperatures climbing into the 60s by midweek.
Sunday will bring mostly sunny conditions with highs near 50°F, while overnight lows will dip to 33°F. Monday will see a significant warm-up, with highs reaching 63°F under mostly sunny skies. Winds will remain steady out of the southwest at 6-7 mph.
By Tuesday, temperatures will peak at 65°F, offering a brief taste of spring. However, Tuesday night will bring partly cloudy skies and a low of 41°F. Wednesday and Thursday will remain mild, with highs in the low 60s and overnight lows in the mid-30s.
No hazardous weather is expected beyond Saturday morning’s wind chills, and no precipitation is in the forecast through Friday. Residents should dress warmly in the mornings but can expect more comfortable afternoons as the week progresses.
