Wichita, KS – Dangerous heat conditions are expected to persist across Kansas this week, with heat indices reaching between 105 to 115 degrees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wichita. This excessive heat warning will remain in effect through Thursday, posing significant health risks to residents.
According to the NWS, heat indices are forecasted to peak this afternoon with Topeka reaching 114 degrees, Salina at 111 degrees, and Wichita hitting 110 degrees. Other cities experiencing extreme heat include Emporia at 109 degrees, Chanute at 110 degrees, and Coffeyville at 110 degrees. The NWS advises residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, and check on relatives and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
Wednesday and Thursday will continue to see dangerously high heat indices, with Salina and Topeka remaining in the triple digits. The NWS emphasizes the importance of taking regular breaks, drinking fluids, and staying in cool or air-conditioned environments. Signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke should be monitored closely.
