Chicago, IL – Snow and strong winds are causing dangerous travel conditions across parts of Illinois and Indiana on Thursday.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas including Kankakee, Merrillville, and Lafayette. The advisory, which remains in effect until 3 p.m. CST for Illinois and 10 p.m. EST for Indiana, warns of snow accumulations of up to two inches and wind gusts reaching 40 mph.

According to the advisory, these conditions are expected to create slippery roads and significantly reduced visibility. Motorists are advised to slow down and exercise caution, especially during the evening commute in Indiana.

In Illinois, regions like Iroquois and Kankakee Counties are already seeing impacts. Indiana counties such as Tippecanoe, Marion, and Monroe will experience worsening conditions later this evening. Bridges and overpasses may become particularly treacherous.

Travelers are encouraged to check road conditions before heading out. Updates for Illinois roads are available at www.gettingaroundillinois.com, while Indiana residents can visit 511in.org.

Officials stress preparedness and urge drivers to allow extra time for travel.
