Kankakee, Illinois – A monthlong series of events aims to raise awareness and support survivors of sexual violence.

According to Clove Alliance, April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), with activities planned across Kankakee, Iroquois, and Ford counties to promote prevention and community education.

The nonprofit is hosting a range of events throughout April, including the “Brave, Bold, and Believed” art exhibit at the Kankakee County Museum beginning Wednesday, April 2, as well as multiple fundraisers, training sessions, and community engagement opportunities.

Organizers said the initiative is designed to amplify survivor voices and encourage community involvement. Events include a virtual sexual harassment prevention training on April 15, a mandated reporter training on April 21, and Denim Day on April 29, which encourages participants to wear denim in solidarity with survivors.

Additional fundraisers with local restaurants, including Monical’s Pizza, Texas Roadhouse, and Culver’s, will help support free and confidential services provided by Clove Alliance.

“Sexual violence is a pervasive issue that affects people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds,” said CEO Tracey Noe Slach, citing federal data that shows many cases go unreported.

Clove Alliance officials said community participation—through attending events, volunteering, or donating—plays a key role in prevention efforts and survivor support.

The initiative may be especially relevant for students and young adults participating in awareness campaigns and training opportunities.
