Kankakee, IL – Book lovers in Kankakee are being asked to help support student leadership with a unique community initiative that kicks off later this month.
According to Bishop McNamara Catholic School, the Prefect Board is collecting new and gently used books for its upcoming “Blind Date with a Book” fundraiser, which launches Friday, June 21 at the Kankakee Farmers Market. The project seeks a variety of children’s, young adult, and adult books in all genres.
Books can be donated by placing them in a designated bin located outside the entrance to the high school. Organizers note that all proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly toward funding future student-led events and activities.
The Prefect Board, a leadership team made up of Bishop McNamara students, is behind the initiative. Their mission centers on creating a positive impact both within the school and throughout the greater community. The creative “Blind Date with a Book” theme encourages readers to choose a wrapped book without knowing its title, adding an element of surprise and fun to the reading experience.
Community members are encouraged to participate not only by donating but also by visiting the booth at the Kankakee Farmers Market on June 21 to support the cause.
