Kankakee, IL – Kankakee County voters will soon receive a postcard explaining the option to apply for permanent vote-by-mail status. The mailing, set to be sent in early August, will include an application and details about the new law enabling voters to be placed on a permanent list for mail-in ballots.
According to County Clerk Dan Hendrickson, voters on the permanent list will automatically receive ballots approximately 40 days before any general, consolidated, or primary election. Voters can also choose to receive ballots for specific elections or opt out of the list entirely.
Ballots for those who apply will be mailed around September 26. Hendrickson emphasized that while voting by mail is being encouraged, in-person voting on Election Day remains available. Voters with questions are encouraged to contact the County Clerk’s office at 815-937-2990 or visit the office in Kankakee.
