Kankakee, IL – Kankakee County saw the heaviest snowfall in Illinois on Wednesday, with some areas reporting over 4 inches. The storm blanketed much of northern Illinois, but Kankakee stood out as the hardest-hit area.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals in Kankakee County reached 4.5 inches near Kankakee and 3.9 inches in Herscher. Nearby Bourbonnais reported 1.9 inches, while surrounding counties saw lighter accumulations.
Road crews worked overnight to clear highways, but travel delays persisted into the morning. Authorities urged drivers to use caution due to icy conditions.
The snowstorm moved in late Tuesday and intensified overnight, dropping varying amounts across the region. Lake and Boone counties also saw significant snowfall, with some areas receiving over 4 inches.
Forecasters predict colder temperatures but no additional major snowfall in the coming days. Officials advise residents to clear sidewalks and driveways to prevent ice buildup.
