Kankakee, IL – The United Way of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties is launching the “Home for the Holidays” campaign to address the local housing crisis. Kicking off on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3, the campaign runs through Dec. 17, United Way’s 83rd birthday.

Organizers aim to raise $8,000 for the Stable Housing Impact Fund, which supports housing and shelter services for local families. This initiative comes as Kankakee County ranks fifth in Illinois for housing assistance requests through the 211 hotline, with 930 residents seeking help this year.

According to United Way, housing and shelter needs account for 40% of all local 211 referrals, highlighting an urgent crisis. Without stable housing, families face challenges meeting basic needs, impacting health, education, and economic stability.

Donations can be made at www.myunitedway.org/housing or mailed to PO Box 1286, Kankakee, IL 60901. Checks should be labeled “Home for the Holidays” to ensure funds are directed to housing efforts.

Support your community this holiday season by helping neighbors find safety and stability. Every donation brings local families closer to a home they can count on.
