Chicago Teen Charged in Grundy County After Police Chase of Stolen Iowa Vehicle on I-80

Morris, IL – A 16-year-old from Chicago was arrested Wednesday night after leading police on a high-speed chase on I-80.

Grundy County deputies responded around 9:56 p.m. to an ISPERN alert about a stolen silver Kia Optima. The vehicle, reported stolen out of Cedar Rapids, IA, failed to yield near the 112-mile marker on I-80, prompting pursuit.

Authorities used spike strips near the 116-mile marker to disable the vehicle. The juvenile driver fled on foot but was captured by deputies near Ridge Road and Mondamin Street.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, the teen faces charges of aggravated fleeing, unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and traffic offenses. The juvenile has prior cases in DuPage County for similar offenses, including aggravated battery and vehicle trespass.

Local police departments, including Morris and Minooka, assisted in the arrest.
