Kankakee County, IL Fire: Crews Contain Building Blaze at Storage Building, Causes $40K in Damage

Limestone Township, IL – Fire crews responded to a building fire Friday evening in Kankakee County, containing the blaze and preventing further damage.

According to the Limestone Township Fire Protection District, the call came in at approximately 7:32 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2026, for a reported fire at 4345 W 1500 North Road in Limestone Township. Crews arrived within minutes and found a 30-by-50-foot storage shed with smoke showing.

Firefighters quickly investigated and located a skid steer actively burning inside the structure. Crews initiated suppression efforts and were able to contain the fire to the equipment and a small portion of the building.

Authorities say crews remained on scene for about one hour working to fully extinguish the fire and secure the area.

Estimated damage from the incident is approximately $40,000. No injuries were reported.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Kankakee Fire Department, Bradley Fire Department, Bourbonnais Fire Protection District, Salina Fire Protection District, Herscher Fire Protection District, Braidwood Fire Protection District, and Riverside Ambulance.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
