Aurora, IL – Several businesses in Aurora were cited this month after failing alcohol and tobacco compliance checks conducted by local police, according to officials.
According to the Aurora Police Department, its Special Operations Group (SOG) carried out inspections at businesses across the city to ensure compliance with laws governing the sale of alcohol, tobacco, nicotine, and vape products. The checks are part of ongoing efforts to prevent underage access and enforce city ordinances.
Police said four businesses were found to be out of compliance and were cited for violations. Those locations include a shop on West Indian Trail Road, a business along West Galena Boulevard, a gas station on New York Street, and a store on Montgomery Road.
Meanwhile, several other businesses passed the compliance checks. Locations on North Lake Street, East New York Street, Montgomery Road, and Ogden Avenue were found to be following regulations during the inspections.
“Compliance checks like these play an important role in keeping alcohol and tobacco out of the hands of minors,” said Lt. Christopher McWilliams of the Special Operations Group. He added that most businesses cooperate and work to meet requirements, while enforcement continues for those that do not.
Police noted these checks are conducted periodically throughout Aurora and are part of broader proactive efforts. In addition to compliance enforcement, SOG also focuses on investigations tied to violent crime, illegal firearms, and narcotics activity across the city.
Authorities did not release details on penalties issued but said enforcement actions will continue in the coming months.
