St. Charles, IL – A 5-year-old boy tragically died in a driveway accident in St. Charles last Tuesday, and authorities announced today that no criminal charges will be filed in connection with the incident.

According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, the child was struck by a vehicle around 5:09 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, in the 4000 block of Royal Fox Drive. St. Charles Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a traffic crash involving a young child, who was found receiving CPR from a neighbor when emergency crews arrived. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, the boy was later pronounced dead at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital.

The vehicle’s driver was identified as an immediate family member. According to St. Charles Deputy Police Chief Rich Clark, the individual fully cooperated with the investigation, which was supported by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.

“This was a heartbreaking and tragic accident that has devastated a family and deeply affected the community,” said Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser. “After a comprehensive review of the evidence, it is clear that this was not the result of criminal conduct, recklessness, or negligence.”

The State’s Attorney’s Office emphasized the professional and thorough nature of the investigation and extended condolences to the family impacted by the child’s death.
