Chicago, IL – June 2024 saw unusually high temperatures across Illinois, with average temperatures exceeding norms by more than 3 degrees. According to the US National Weather Service Chicago, the monthly average temperature in Chicago (O’Hare) was 73.9°F, 3.3 degrees above normal, making it the 10th warmest June on record. Rockford also experienced significant warmth with an average temperature of 73.7°F, 3.6 degrees above normal, ranking as the 8th warmest June in its history.

While temperatures soared, precipitation levels varied significantly across the region. Chicago recorded 3.10 inches of rainfall, which is 1.00 inch below the average for June. Conversely, Rockford received 4.47 inches of rain, slightly under its normal precipitation by 0.76 inches. The region experienced a stark contrast in rainfall, with some areas approaching normal levels while others experienced considerably drier conditions.

The weather patterns in June highlight the dynamic climate in Illinois, marked by notable temperature deviations and uneven rainfall distribution. As summer progresses, residents and authorities remain vigilant, monitoring weather updates to prepare for potential extremes in the coming months.
