Joliet, IL: Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run at Busy Intersection

Joliet, IL – A 62-year-old man died after a hit-and-run accident Thursday night near Fourth Avenue and Chicago Street.

Joliet Police responded to reports of a pedestrian struck around 9:30 p.m. Officers found the victim critically injured on the sidewalk. Joliet Fire Department transported him to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Witnesses reported the victim was crossing Chicago Street eastbound when a silver sedan, traveling northbound at high speed, struck him. CCTV footage captured the incident and showed visible front-end damage to the sedan.

The Joliet Police Traffic Unit has launched an active investigation. The intersection remained closed for hours for traffic reconstruction. Authorities are searching for the suspect and vehicle involved.
