Joliet, IL – Major changes are coming to Interstate 80 access in Will County as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) prepares to open a newly reconstructed ramp to Larkin Avenue on Friday, October 4.

According to IDOT, beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, westbound I-80 between Center Street and Larkin Avenue will see lane closures as crews prepare the new connection. At least one lane will remain open during the work, which is expected to last until 10 a.m. Friday.

The new ramp will allow drivers on westbound I-80 to exit directly onto both northbound and southbound Larkin Avenue (Illinois Route 7). IDOT noted that a new traffic signal has also been installed at the top of the ramp to improve safety and traffic flow.

The current westbound ramp to southbound Larkin Avenue will be permanently closed, requiring all Larkin-bound traffic to use the new ramp starting Friday morning.

This project is part of the broader I-80 rebuild initiative aimed at improving safety and reducing congestion along the heavily traveled corridor.

Motorists are advised to plan extra travel time overnight and Friday morning while the traffic shift takes effect.
