Chicago, Illinois – Residents across northern Illinois should brace for intense evening weather as scattered thunderstorms push through the region until 11 p.m. Monday. These storms may bring frequent lightning, pea-size hail, gusty winds, and torrential downpours, posing risks for both drivers and those outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the greatest threat is concentrated in a swath from Pontiac to Chicago, including Joliet, Kankakee, and Ottawa, but an isolated storm could still form outside this zone. Storm motion is tracking northeast at about 15 mph, with additional activity possible after midnight—especially northwest of I-55.
Motorists are urged to use extreme caution in heavy rain and avoid flooded roadways. Strong wind gusts could knock down small branches or move unsecured outdoor items. The NWS advises moving indoors immediately if thunder is heard.
The threat of additional overnight storms may lead to renewed warnings into early Tuesday morning. Stay tuned to local weather updates for the latest advisories.
