Jennings, LA – A fatal bicycle crash on U.S. 90 near Triangle Shell Road claimed the life of a Mermentau man on Sunday night, raising urgent safety concerns. At around 9:00 p.m., 49-year-old Shawn Maris was struck and killed after turning left into the path of an eastbound 2013 GMC Sierra. The collision ejected Maris from his bike, resulting in fatal injuries.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop D, the bicycle lacked reflectors or lights, and Maris was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the GMC, who was unharmed, could not avoid the collision. Troopers emphasize the importance of wearing an approved helmet, as it significantly reduces the risk of brain injuries and increases survival chances.
