Birmingham, AL – A 29-year-old woman is recovering after a domestic violence-related shooting in Center Point Wednesday night, prompting an investigation and arrest by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2026, to UAB St. Vincent’s East Hospital after reports of a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators say the victim was involved in a domestic altercation with her husband at a residence in the 1700 block of 6th Place NW.
Authorities allege the suspect discharged a firearm during the altercation, striking the victim. Following the incident, the suspect allegedly forced the woman into a vehicle and transported her to the hospital, where she received treatment for serious injuries.
On Thursday, April 30, 2026, at approximately 2:28 p.m., detectives located and arrested the suspect in the 5400 block of 12th Court in the Wylam area. The arrest was made without incident.
The suspect has been identified as Anthony Canada, 40, of Center Point. He has been charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling or vehicle and domestic violence in the first degree. Canada is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
