Residents of Rensselaer in Jasper County, Indiana, can mark their calendars for the upcoming citywide clean-up week, a much-anticipated annual event designed to tidy up the town and dispose of accumulated waste responsibly. Slated for May 6-10, 2024, the initiative provides an opportunity for locals to declutter and start the season afresh.
According to the recent press release from the City of Rensselaer, the clean-up week comes with specific guidelines detailing what city crews will and will not collect. Prohibited items include hazardous materials like chemicals and paints, as well as car parts and contractor materials. Residents can, however, set out yard waste, bagged trash within weight limits, and even large items such as appliances, with a nominal fee applied to the latter.
For an additional cost, the city will also collect tires, with fees ranging from $10 for mid-size tires to $25 for tractor tires. This year’s announcement emphasizes the city’s no-tolerance policy towards scavengers, reminding the community to report any such activities to local law enforcement. Questions regarding the clean-up can be directed to the Rensselaer Street Department at 219-866-7833.
