Florida starts the morning wrapped in mist, with headlights glowing softly through low clouds and damp air clinging to sidewalks. Visibility drops at times across northeast Florida, creating early travel slowdowns as the first full week of 2026 gets underway.
According to the National Weather Service, fog and mist developed early around Jacksonville with temperatures near the upper 50s and humidity near saturation. Visibility may dip below normal through the morning hours before gradually improving. As clouds lift, sunshine returns and temperatures climb into the low 60s.
Drivers should use caution on I-95, I-295, and the Buckman Bridge early today. Fog can thicken suddenly near waterways and low-lying areas. Reduce speed, allow extra following distance, and use low-beam headlights. Conditions improve by late morning as mixing increases.
The pattern turns noticeably warmer moving into Monday and Tuesday. Highs rise into the low 70s Monday, then mid to upper 70s Tuesday. Patchy fog may redevelop early each morning, especially where winds remain light. Afternoons stay dry and bright, making it feel more like early spring than winter.
By midweek, warmth holds firm. Highs reach the mid to upper 70s Wednesday and Thursday with partly sunny skies. Nights stay mild in the mid to upper 50s, keeping any winter chill away. To be fair, this warmth fits a broader trend.
Meteorologists continue tracking colder air and heavier snow potential across the Midwest and Great Lakes later this month, especially January 17 through January 30. Along the 35-degree north parallel, including Florida, above-average temperatures are expected to dominate instead.
For now, fog remains the main concern. Slow down early, then enjoy the sunshine later. Seeing thick fog where you are? Let us know how visibility looks on your drive.
