Jackson, MS Weather: Flash Flooding and Severe Thunderstorms Expected Overnight

Jackson, MS – The National Weather Service in Jackson is warning residents of heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms expected across parts of central and southern Mississippi from Saturday night through Sunday morning.

According to the NWS, rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches are likely, with isolated areas receiving up to 4 to 5 inches, potentially leading to localized flash flooding. The heaviest rainfall is expected west of Interstate 55 and south of Interstate 20, with the main threat window lasting from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday.

Meteorologists also warn that severe thunderstorms could accompany the system, bringing damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail up to quarter size, and a possible isolated tornado. The greatest severe weather threat is forecast for south-central Mississippi, including areas around Brookhaven, McComb, and Natchez, between 11 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday.

Drivers are urged to use caution, especially in flood-prone areas, and to avoid driving through water-covered roads. The Weather Service advises residents to stay updated on changing conditions through local alerts and NOAA Weather Radio.
