According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 4:53 p.m. on September 30 to a residence on McKenna Road in the Township of Knapp after receiving a tip that Austin Z. Juracich was present. Juracich, who has active felony warrants issued by the Jackson County Circuit Court and Department of Corrections, was reportedly armed and made comments suggesting he would engage in a shootout with officers rather than return to jail.
Deputies attempted contact but were unsuccessful in securing Juracich’s surrender. Multiple agencies assisted, including the Jackson County Emergency Response Team, Monroe County Tactical Team, Wisconsin State Patrol, Warrens First Responders, and Tomah Area Ambulance.
