Washington, D.C. – Mail service across the United States is paused Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, as the U.S. Postal Service observes Columbus Day, a federal holiday recognized nationwide.

According to USPS, all post offices will be closed, and there will be no regular mail delivery or retail operations. This includes services such as Priority Mail and package pickups. Normal operations are expected to resume Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Private carriers are making some exceptions. UPS stores and pickup services will operate normally, though UPS SurePost packages may experience delays since they rely on USPS for final delivery. FedEx services will remain mostly operational, though some FedEx Express routes may be adjusted for the holiday.

Columbus Day—also known as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in many states—means other federal offices, courts, and most banks are also closed. Bank of America, Chase, and Wells Fargo branches will not open, though ATMs and online banking remain available.

Retailers, grocery stores, and major chains such as Costco, Walmart, and Target are expected to stay open under regular hours. State and local government offices, including DMV locations, may vary depending on jurisdiction.

Travelers and business owners are advised to plan around potential mail delays and limited government access through Monday.
