Watseka, IL – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Iroquois County from midnight Sunday to noon Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago.

Forecasters warn that lake effect snow bands could produce 1 to 2 inches per hour, leading to localized accumulations of 2 to 6 inches across portions of the county. The snow is expected to intensify overnight and persist through the Monday morning commute, creating slippery and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the NWS, the heaviest snow totals are likely east of Interstate 57 and north of U.S. 24, where narrow but intense lake effect bands may develop. Visibility could drop rapidly in those areas, while nearby communities may see only light accumulation.

Drivers in Watseka, Gilman, and surrounding areas are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution, especially during the morning rush. Untreated roads may become slick as temperatures hover below freezing.

Conditions are expected to improve by Monday afternoon as snowfall tapers off and skies gradually clear.
