Memphis, MO – A significant winter storm is set to impact Missouri’s Clark and Scotland counties, bringing heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions starting overnight. Residents can expect accumulations of 6 to 10 inches, with gusting winds up to 35 mph creating blowing and drifting snow.
According to the National Weather Service, the Winter Storm Warning takes effect at midnight Sunday and will remain active until 6 a.m. Monday. The highest snow totals are expected along west-to-east roads, which will see reduced visibility and slick surfaces, particularly on bridges and overpasses.
Officials advise delaying all non-essential travel during the storm. Those who must be on the roads should carry an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water. “Travelers should drive cautiously, allowing extra distance for braking and turns,” said state highway authorities.
Temperatures are forecast to drop into the low 20s during the storm, exacerbating road conditions. The winds may also lead to localized power outages, so residents are encouraged to prepare for potential disruptions.
The five-day forecast predicts cold conditions continuing through midweek, with another chance for light snow late Wednesday.
Stay updated on road conditions through MoDOT’s website, modot.org, or by dialing 511. Officials remind residents to winterize vehicles and avoid sudden braking to stay safe on icy roads.
