Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is under a Winter Storm Warning through Monday, with up to 11 inches of snow expected in some areas. Roadways, including I-65 and I-70, are predicted to become slick and hazardous, impacting the Monday morning and evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm will bring heavy snow, mixed precipitation, and gusting winds up to 35 mph. Snowfall will begin early Sunday, intensify overnight, and continue through Monday. The heaviest accumulation is forecast for areas north and east of Indianapolis, including Anderson and Muncie, which could see 7 inches or more. Southern Indiana may face ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch.

The NWS urges residents to delay travel if possible. Those who must travel should equip their vehicles with emergency kits, including flashlights, food, water, and blankets. Motorists are also advised to exercise extreme caution, leave ample space between vehicles, and allow extra time for travel.

Temperatures will hover near freezing Monday, with wind chills making conditions feel even colder. The strong winds may down power lines, causing outages. Residents should prepare by charging devices and gathering supplies in case of extended power interruptions.

Following the storm, conditions will improve Tuesday, with mostly cloudy skies and calmer winds. However, roads may remain icy, particularly on bridges and overpasses.
