Friday continues the warm spell with highs near 85, but by Friday night a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops, mainly after sunset. While rainfall totals are expected to remain light, localized downpours could briefly impact evening travel.

Saturday dries out quickly with mostly sunny skies and highs near 79. Winds from the northwest may gust up to 18 mph, making it breezy at times. Sunday marks the noticeable cool down, topping out near 74 with overnight lows dipping into the low 50s, unusually crisp for late August in central Iowa.

Travelers should be alert for wet roads late Friday into early Saturday and consider adjusting outdoor plans around possible storms. Cooler nights through early next week may also prompt residents to adjust evening routines or bring pets indoors.

The National Weather Service says conditions remain mostly dry beyond the weekend, with sunshine returning Monday and highs holding in the low to mid-70s.
