Maquoketa, IA – A small plane made an emergency landing in a Jackson County field Friday evening after reportedly experiencing mechanical issues, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they were notified around 5:20 p.m. that a single-engine aircraft was attempting to make an emergency landing near Otter Creek, close to U.S. Highway 61. Responders found a privately owned Cessna airplane down in an agricultural field off 216th Avenue near Bellevue-Cascade Road.

According to Sheriff Brent Kilburg, the pilot had exited the plane before first responders arrived and was treated for minor injuries at the scene. No passengers were aboard, and no additional medical transport was required.

The plane was disabled and arrangements were made for its removal. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and will conduct a follow-up investigation into the cause of the incident.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Bellevue Police Department, Jackson County Conservation, Jackson County Emergency Management, LaMotte Fire Department, and Jackson County Regional Health Center Ambulance personnel.
