Des Moines, IA – Strong thunderstorms are forecasted to sweep through the Missouri Valley, affecting western Iowa this afternoon. The storms, which have already intensified near northeastern Nebraska, may produce severe hail and damaging winds across the region through 4-5 PM CDT.
The National Weather Service reports that the storms are forming in an environment conducive to supercells, supported by deep-layer shear and CAPE values around 1000-1500 J/kg. As mid-level forcing moves eastward, the risk of severe weather could increase, particularly in the western parts of the state. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and monitor weather updates.
