Davenport, IA — Strong winds, a freeze risk, and the threat of thunderstorms are lining up for the Quad Cities region this week. Residents in eastern Iowa and western Illinois should prepare for rapidly shifting spring weather, including a 60% chance of thunderstorms by Thursday night and potential freezing conditions north of I-80 on Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, gusty northwest winds will persist Tuesday, driving an elevated fire risk through dry vegetation. By early Wednesday, temperatures could fall near freezing, especially in areas north of Interstate 80, including portions of northwest Illinois and northeast Iowa.

Wednesday will bring sunshine and highs near 66°F, but calm conditions won’t last long. By Thursday afternoon, showers are likely (60% chance) after 1 p.m., followed by stronger storms into Friday. Forecasters warn that while uncertainty remains around storm timing and severity, the possibility of severe weather disrupting late-week and weekend plans is increasing.

Storm chances continue Friday, with another 50% chance of thunderstorms in the forecast. Easter weekend begins with partly sunny skies and a high of 63°F on Saturday, offering brief relief.

5-Day Quad Cities Spring Forecast:

  • Wednesday: Sunny, high near 66°F.
  • Thursday: Showers likely after 1 p.m., high near 70°F.
  • Friday: 50% chance of thunderstorms, high of 79°F.
