Bright sunshine reflected off the Mississippi River late this morning as warm air settled across the Quad Cities region. Light winds and dry roads created near-perfect conditions around Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, and Rock Island after a stretch of unsettled spring weather across parts of the Midwest.

According to the National Weather Service, the dry and warm pattern continues through Memorial Day and Tuesday with temperatures climbing well above average for late May. Highs reach the upper 80s by Tuesday afternoon, giving eastern Iowa and western Illinois an early burst of summer heat.

The warm-up will likely bring crowded riverfront parks, busier bike trails, and heavy traffic along Interstate 80 and Interstate 74 through the holiday stretch. Conditions remain favorable for outdoor plans, though rising humidity levels may become more noticeable by Tuesday evening.

Midweek weather changes begin Wednesday as a new disturbance approaches the Mississippi Valley. Forecasters expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop during the afternoon and evening hours with rain chances around 50 percent across the Quad Cities.

While widespread severe weather is not currently expected, a few stronger storms could still produce gusty winds, brief hail, and downpours capable of reducing visibility during the evening commute. Residents should monitor updated weather alerts through midweek as unstable air increases across Iowa and Illinois.

For now, the bigger story remains the sharp temperature swing. Just days after cool spring mornings, highs are now approaching 90 degrees in parts of Scott and Rock Island counties. The warmer pattern may also trigger rising pollen levels and worsening allergy conditions across the region.

Long-range outlooks continue favoring above-normal temperatures heading into early June across much of the central Midwest.
