Quad Cities, IA/IL – A strong storm system will bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and snow to Iowa and Illinois on Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, widespread rain of 1 to 2 inches will fall Tuesday. The rain could lead to flash flooding as it soaks frozen ground. Strong southeast winds of 20 to 30 mph will accompany the storm. Some isolated storms may turn severe.
By Wednesday, winds will shift northwest, increasing to 40 to 55 mph. Temperatures will drop, changing the rain into snow with minor accumulations possible.
River levels may rise, and localized flooding is possible. Roads could become slick as snow accumulates. Residents should prepare for travel impacts and changing conditions.
Officials advise securing loose objects, staying weather-aware, and having multiple ways to receive warnings. Drivers should be cautious of flooding and icy roads through midweek.
