Quad Cities, IA/IL – Strong winds and dry conditions will raise the risk of wildfires today across eastern Iowa and western Illinois. The National Weather Service warns that gusts of 20 to 30 mph, combined with dry air and above-average temperatures nearing 46°F, will create very high fire dangerous conditions. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning and secure loose items.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will shift southwesterly on Tuesday, maintaining warm temperatures and breezy conditions with highs reaching 48°F. Gusts up to 30 mph are expected, sustaining fire risks.

The week ahead includes mostly sunny skies Wednesday, with temperatures cooling to the low 40s. By Thursday, highs will climb to the low 50s, but rain chances increase overnight into Friday, providing some relief.

Drivers along I-74 and surrounding roadways should remain alert to strong crosswinds. Officials recommend monitoring local weather updates for any fire-related restrictions.

Prepare for fluctuating conditions and stay cautious outdoors to mitigate wildfire risks.
