Iowa Homicide: Minnesota Teen Arrested in Deadly Davenport Shooting Early Sunday

Davenport, IA – A fatal shooting early Sunday morning in Davenport has led to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect from Minnesota, police said.

According to the Davenport Police Department, officers responded to the 1700 block of Gaines Street at approximately 3:06 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of gunfire. First responders discovered an adult male with gunshot wounds and began lifesaving measures at the scene.

The victim, identified as 28-year-old Douglas C. Meier, was transported by Medic EMS to Mercy One Genesis Hospital East Campus, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Police have arrested Alyx R. Hinton, 18, of Minnesota, in connection with the incident. Hinton is facing multiple charges, including Murder in the First Degree, two counts of Attempt to Commit Murder, two counts of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon (a Class C felony), and Going Armed with Intent.

Authorities stated the incident does not appear to be a random act of violence. However, the investigation remains ongoing, and additional details have not been released at this time.
